The iSchool is so happy to welcome Dr. Hyerim Cho. Dr. Cho earned her PhD from the University of Washington’s iSchool this summer, with her dissertation entitled “Understanding users of cross-media information: contexts, motivations, and features focusing on visual narrative materials.” According to Dr. Cho, “my decision of studying library and information science was heavily influenced by one Japanese author, Haruki Murakami. When I was in high school, I read his fiction, Kafka on the Shore. The librarian depicted in that book was so great—he was ready to provide the right information to people, he understood his own library’s characteristics, and he knew what to expect from the patrons who come to his library (and he was just so cool, in general). I wanted to become someone like him. Libraries and librarians always play an important role in his books. I recommend his books to anyone especially who’re in LIS domain!”
