Medieval Embedded Image of Angel

Medieval Embedded Image of Angel

Vicky Kirby, from Kansas City, has spent her summer practicum at the Nelson Atkins Museum. “These past two weeks my work for the Spencer Art Reference Library at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art have been full of excitement, wonder, and a tiny bit of awe.” While interpreting a medieval book leaf from the Karen Gould Collection and entering metadata, Vicky discovered a microscopic embedded image of an angel so unique that outside experts were consulted from as far away as the Royal Holloway University London and the Art History Department of New York University. Consultants said they have never seen theĀ placementĀ of anything like these embedded images. The story is far from over.
