Statement on LIS Program Advising and Practicum Changes

Posted:

The School of Information Science & Learning Technologies announces two structural changes to the Library and Information Science Master’s degree program. These changes will allow the LIS Program to take better advantage of local relationships with libraries and information agencies, and provide more direct and consistent student service.

Advising

Starting with students admitted for Fall 2016, student advising will be provided by LIS faculty members Chris LeBeau and Karen Robinson.

  • Chris LeBeau is based in Kansas City. She will advise students admitted for Fall 2016 and following in Kansas City, Columbia, and western Missouri, as well as Nebraska and other out-of-state students.
  • Karen Robinson is based in St. Louis, and will advise students admitted for Fall 2016 and following in St. Louis, Springfield, and eastern Missouri.

Current students who wish to switch their faculty advisor to Chris LeBeau or Karen Robinson may do so by contacting them (Chris LeBeau, lebeauc@umkc.edu, or Karen Robinson, robinsonkar@umsl.edu) via email to request permission to switch. Once permission is granted, the student should forward the permission email to the SISLT Student Coordinator’s Office (sislt@missouri.edu) for revision of records.

Practicum Supervision

As of August 2016, Missouri students taking ISLT 7381 Practicum in Library & Information Agencies will be supervised by LIS faculty members Chris LeBeau and Karen Robinson.

  • Chris LeBeau is based in Kansas City, and will provide practicum supervision to students in the Kansas City metro area, Columbia, and western Missouri.
  • Karen Robinson is based in St. Louis, and will provide practicum supervision to students in St. Louis metro area, Springfield, and eastern Missouri.
  • Nebraska site liaison Laura England-Biggs will continue to provide practicum supervision for students in Nebraska and Iowa.
  • Practicum supervision for 7380 School Library Practicum will continue to be provided by Denice Adkins.
  • What if my practicum isn’t in those geographic regions? You may ask either Chris LeBeau or Karen Robinson to supervise.
  • What if I’m doing a school library practicum? Practicum supervision for 7380 School Library Practicum will continue to be provided by Denice Adkins.
